Overview

A roller shutter is typically an external roller blind fitted to window surrounds, made of aluminum and insulating materials. They may be adjusted to fully open, partially open or fully closed, providing almost 100% block out of external light, whether that be daytime light incorporating solar heat and UV or street lights at night. They may be adjusted with a remote control or a fixed wired controller, both of which may be fitted to the internal wall.

Roller shutters increase the level of security and privacy of your home along with improving resistance to the cold during winter and heat during summer, ultimately decreasing the energy load placed on your heating and cooling system(s). Other benefits not normally considered are the reduction in noise able to enter your home, such as every day traffic, lawn mowers, whipper snippers, dogs, people and the annoying car speed hump.

Benefits

Roller shutters are commonly used for a variety of purposes, including:

Security: Roller shutters are often used to secure windows and doors in homes, providing a physical barrier that can deter burglars and intruders.

Privacy: Roller shutters can be used to block the view from outside, providing privacy within your home.

Light Control: They can help control the amount of sunlight and natural light that enters a room. This is particularly useful for spaces like bedrooms, where you may want to block out light to improve sleep quality.

Insulation: Roller shutters can provide insulation benefits by reducing heat transfer through windows and doors, helping to maintain a more comfortable indoor temperature and potentially lowering energy bills during winter and summer.

Storm Protection: In areas prone to severe weather, roller shutters can protect windows and doors from flying debris and damage during storms, hurricanes, or tornadoes.

Noise Reduction: Roller shutters can also help reduce outside noise, making them beneficial for homes or businesses located in noisy environments.

Fitment - Internal

There are two roller shutter fitment options, either 'Internal' to the window surround or 'External'.

The image on the left shows an 'Internal' configuration which is suitable for sliding windows.

Fitment - External

The image on the right shows an 'External' configuration which is suitable for awning windows. The slat guide channel is mounted on the external face of the home, allowing awning windows to fully open.

Colours

From the colour pallet on the left your roller shutter may contain one colour or multiple to suit the external decor of your home.

Control Options

The purpose of a controller is to adjust the roller shutter up or down to your liking. You may either have a wireless remote control configured to each roller shutter or a wired controller .

The wireless remote control is supplied with a battery and sits in a cradle or permanently mounted to the wall.

The wired controller would be mounted in the same location as the remote control and connected to mains power, no batteries for operation required.
